Stardust, sunshine, and surprises

An overly tumultuous school year was coming to a close. I (Erika) was on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster. Big Papa decided it was time for a surprise. After enjoying my first day of freedom, he loaded me in the car under the premise that he was taking me to dinner. After a stop, a quick return towards the house because of a forgotten purse, and about a half in the car, I realized that we weren’t going to dinner. I then began the barrage of questions. He was doing really well not answering them. ARGGG!!! We stopped in Quartzite for some fuel and as I returned to the car, he was listening to a voicemail via speakerphone. I didn’t want to be too rude so I only half listened. When the voicemail was finished Big Papa say, “You weren’t supposed to hear that.” To which I reply, “Why didn’t you turn off the speakerphone?” Anywho, I gathered we were going to the Stardust hotel and began searching. After careful thought, and a slightly blonde moment, I deduced that we were headed to Palm Springs. When I realized this, I immediately texted a friend, who’s mom lives in Palm Springs. I received no reply. ARGGGG!!!! Then, I panicked and these thoughts followed; “I don’t see a suitcase. Please tell me packed. He had to have packed. Duh! Oh crap. WHAT did he pack? Did he grab my glasses? WHAT clothes did he pack? Did he grab shoes? WHAT shoes did he grab? Oh goodness gracious this could get ugly.” (He packed fine by the way) Anyway, we arrived at our cute little 9 room hotel, changed and headed out again. Uber ushered us to Hunters, where I began searching for faces I may know. Wade likes Hunters but, I figured we HAD to be meeting someone there. We were!! I nearly knocked him over when I saw him. He was the last person I expected to see. We proceeded to have a wonderful evening of shenanigans which may have involved signing along to musicals.

Saturday, our shenanigans had caught up to us. Oh boy did they catch up. We are not NEARLY as young as we used to be and our bodies aren’t conditioned for those shenanigans anymore.

Sunday rolled around and our bodies no longer protested. So, we hit the pool……for a tad longer than expected. I wasn’t really going for lobster red but, I make it look good! We then proceeded to change and head out on the town again. Surprise, surprise again! My friend, who hadn’t answered me, shows up with her boyfriend. Apparently, my dear husband had planned all of these events for the last three weeks and she didn’t respond because she was afraid she would blow the surprise.

Monday we stopped for breakfast with the friend, her lovely boyfriend, and her fabulous mother before heading home. All in all it was a great weekend. Wade managed to surprise me with another trip (he’s done this twice before) while changing his M.O. Impressive for the guy who almost guaranteed that he was going to propose while sitting on the couch watching a hockey game. Guess things change.
